Hi, my name is David Barron and I live in Carrollton with my wife and two kids. I ride a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate and a 1998 ACE Tourer. I have been riding motorcycles on and off for 35 years and it all started with my Yamaha DT-100.
In 2001, a friend introduced me to The Rock, Rockwall Chapter of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club (SCRC), and that is one of the best things that ever happened to me. I always looked forward to Thursday nights because that is when The Rock held its dinner ride. It was close to a 30 mile ride for me from Carrollton to Rowlett but it was worth it and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. The Rock chapter members like Hopper, Doc, Rowdy and the rest of the gang were like family to me.
In 2004, the Denton County Chapter was having some problem so I transferred over to Denton County and became the 1st Officer. I had a blast working with the chapter and meeting new people. The members who I never knew before would eventually become very close friends to me and my family. In 2006, my health was not so good so I turned over the chapter to my best buddy and 2nd Officer Rich “Family Guy” Jaeger. Rich passed away not long after taking over and I still miss him. On September 29, 2008, I was leading a dinner ride to Chili’s to support St Jude and along the way I got into a headon accident with a pickup. When I was able to park my Valkyrie and walk away from the accident I realized “Family Guy” was watching over me. Even though “Family Guy” is not riding by my side I know he is there in spirit.
Scott “Ras” Rasco took over after Rich and I assisted him as 2nd Officer from fall of 2006 to sometime in 2007. Later that year, Scott made me “Officer Emeritus” of the chapter. I feel honored to hold this title because nobody has ever done that for me. I make sure it is not just a title and I put my heart and soul into everything I do for the chapter and the SCRC. The SCRC has brought me in contact with many others with the same passion for riding. One great things about the SCRC is that you can go just about anywhere and run into a member who will welcome you like family. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I am.
Ride safe,
David Barron
