Hi, my name is David Barron and my friends refer to me as "Baron". This is a nickname I had since I was a kid. I ride a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate and a 1998 ACE Tourer. My passion for motorcycling all started in the 70's on my Yamaha DT-100 and a movie called “On Any Sunday”.

In 2001, a friend introduced me to "The Rock" which is the Rockwall Chapter of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club (SCRC). Every week I rode 30 mile to meet up for the chapter dinner ride. Even though I had to ride in the rush hour traffic, it was all worth it. The members of the Rock like Hopper, Doc, Rowdy and the rest of the gang are like family to me. The SCRC became my family!

In 2004, I was asked to become the First Officer of the Denton County Chapter. I had a blast working with the chapter and meeting new people. The members I never knew before are now close friends and family to me. In 2006, my best buddy and 2nd Officer Rich “Family Guy” Jaeger took over the chapter. Unfortunately, Rich passed away not long after. I lost one of the best friends I ever had. Even though “Family Guy” is not riding by my side anymore, he lives in my heart forever. I never forgot him!

My good friend Scott “Ras” Rasco stepped up and took over for Rich. Later that year, Scott made me “Officer Emeritus” of the chapter and that was a proud day in my life. I felt honored to hold this title. I made sure it is not just a title and I put my heart and soul into everything I do for the chapter and the SCRC.

February 2007, Chuck "Kickstand" Meeks started a weekly tradition for Denton County called Welcome Home A Hero Ride. At least once a week we rode to DFW International Airport to greet the troops coming home from Afghanistan and Iraq. We greeted hundreds of troops every week. My Father Jim "Troublemaker" Barron who is a WWII and Koran War Veteran started going to the airport with us. The chapter made my father an honorary member which he took to heart and wore our SCRC patch proudly. He valued the SCRC as much as he valued his membership to the groups like the VFW and Elks. My father had a smile you would not forget and neither would the troops he greeted. Eventually, the ride stopped because the troops were no longer coming through DFW Airport. Even though we no longer ride to the airport, I will never forget all the troops we greeted and the friendships we made.

In 2010, my mother became ill and eventually passed away. I loved my mother dearly and I miss her so much. Of course, my SCRC family was by my side helping me through this difficult time. Four years later, my father passed away and once again my SCRC family honored my father at his service. I made a memorial patch for my father. It was the 11th Airborne insignia. My father was with the 11th Airborne in WWII and he was proud of it. The 11th were known as the "Angles" so I let everyone know wearing this patch is like having an angle named "Troublemaker" watching over them. I know when I passed the patch out to everyone my dad was watching over us with that unforgettable smile.

The SCRC has brought me in contact with many people with the same passion for riding. One great thing about the SCRC is that you can go just about anywhere and run into a member who will welcome you like family. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I am.

Ride safe,

David Barron
